Faith No More, Live at Brixton - The Second Coming

Bootleg, 2009

It took a while, but they're back. This is my recording from FNM's first reunion show on 10/06/2009. Quality varies from pretty good on the calmer songs like Stripsearch, to good with an awful lot of singing, but that's what you get when you're dead centre at the front surrounded by fans. Feel free to use this recording to mix with other sources and produce a better bootleg.

Lis Er Stille, Apathobvious

Denmark, 2007

Following up on the amazing post by kollaps, here's Lis Er Stille's second studio album.

As one of the fans described the album:
A powerful crescendos led by marching piano lines and incredible vocal layers give way to a capella breaks that lead into somber piano bits and epic finales.

Blueneck, Scars of the Midwest

England, 2006.

Formed in 2000, Blueneck are a reclusive four-piece based in North Somerset. Blueneck’s music can be best described as a cinematic soundscape of ambient atmospherics, dark skeletal rhythms and swirling crescendos, all created with analogue synths, sparse piano and soaring guitars.

Lis Er Stille, The Construction of the Amp-Train

Denmark, 2006.

What an amazing band. Lis Er Stille was founded in 2004, as part of an art project between lead singer Martin Byrialsen and an artist known as Vindril. The idea was to transform Vindril's surreal paintings into music. Their music became so powerful that a band was build up around it.

The Gathering, The West Pole

Netherlands, 2009.

When Anneke van Giersbergen left in 2007, I thought The Gathering's music would be resigned to monotony. I was fortunately wrong as their ninth album demonstrates that they can still produce an interesting and atmospheric alternative rock. In addition, Silje Wergeland's melodic voice is surprisingly delightful.

maudlin of the Well, Part the Second

US, 2009.

Part the Second is maudlin of the Well's fourth album, entirely funded by fan donations and released online on May 14 free of charge. The band reunited to record it following a five year break. The album maintains motW's essentially avant-garde/progressive composition, though it seems to be more instrument-oriented, especially violin-based, than their previous work. Highly recommended.

Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells

England, 1973.

Tubular Bells is Mike Oldfield's groundbreaking album from 1973, becoming one of the greatest references in progressive rock. It is considered to be the first rock album to incorporate elements of classical composition, particularly the use of repetition with subtle variations in the minimalist style as pioneered by composers such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich and LaMonte Young, although these influences were filtered through rock sensibilities.

"There is nothing wrong with repetition so long as it is something worth repeating.”

pg.lost, Yes I Am EP

Sweden, 2007

“Yes I Am”, the debut EP.
It’s obvious that pg.lost bear their influences boldly on their sleeve, and therefore, deeply and unashamedly root them in the music they compose. The plodding, repetitive nature of “The Kind Heart of Langion” is particularly reminiscent of the style featured in Explosions in the Sky’s “Earth is not a Cold Dead Place”, whilst the slowly building climax in “Yes I Am” could fit perfectly into a Godspeed You! Black Emperor track.
